WHY ARE LVLS SO POPULAR RECENTLY: THE POWER OF TRENDS ON THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY.
We have seen it plastered all over TikTok and Instagram: more clients are getting their lashes removed and not returning to the salon, but why and what has influenced it? With the ‘clean girl’ minimalist look being in this summer it is no surprise people have gone au natural with the likes of our favourite celebrities following suit, but is the lash industry really dying? Let’s break it down.
The short answer is no, with an interest spiking now more than ever with new entrepreneurs starting out in the beauty industry, specifically the lash industry, it is safe to say us lash techs are safe. As we know trends come and go and this is most likely a further representation of that. Influencers and celebrities hold an immense power over what is and isn’t trending in current years and with the likes of Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner all over our screens, natural is in.
SO WHAT IS AN LVL IN COMPARISON TO LASH EXTENSIONS?
An LVL focuses on enhancing your natural lashes, lifting them with a crème solution giving the illusion of a permanent, natural, curled lash and using tint to make the natural lashes appear darker, usually complimenting the client’s eye colour. This is apposed to applying either a single extension or a fan to each lash to achieve extensions which obviously are not as subtle as an LVL or natural.
SO WHY ARE LVLS SO POPULAR RECENTLY?
It all comes down to three factors: timing, longevity and of course trends.
Timing:
LVLs are a considerably shorter process compared to extensions, they can taker between 35-45 minutes compared to a full lash set which can sometimes take up to two hours, this obviously is more convenient for the average client whom most likely deals with the busy hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Longevity:
With the correct aftercare recommended by your beautician, LVLs can last for up to eight weeks dependent on your average lash cycle. This makes them much less maintenance compared to eyelash extensions where infills are usually required every two to three weeks with correct aftercare. This also makes extensions much more costly compared to an LVL making LVLs that much more appealing.
Trends:
As we have already covered social media trends are usually followed by the average consumer when considering a beauty treatment, with minimalist in, last extensions (for the time being and on average) are out.
WHO IS THE IDEAL CLIENT FOR A LASH LIFT?
Those who are in search of the drama and boldness that a fake lash can usually give will probably lean towards extensions, but if you’re into the whole no-makeup makeup vibe an LVL could be the treatment for you. It is the embodiment of being high maintenance to stay low maintenance, although it is definitely less maintenance than extensions for example. It also minimises damaged that can be caused by daily curling and constantly applying mascara to the lashes providing a healthier alternative for your lashes.
OVERALL VERDICT:
Lash lifts are a great way to enhance your eyes with minimal effort for up to eight weeks. They are in at the moment when we are considering trends of the moment and are ideal coming up to summer, the season of swimming, sweating and humidity. All factors considered they do not provide you with the volume that of extensions would and this should be noted when considering the right treatment for you!
